Miya brings exceptional regulatory knowledge and legal experience to her role as the Jewelers Vigilance Committee's  Associate Counsel and Mediation Director.

She is a sought-after speaker in the jewelry industry on topics such as the Federal Trade Commission Jewelry Guidelines, the Made in USA Standard, cybersecurity and privacy laws and more.

In addition to earning her JD from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Ms. Owens graduated with honors in Technology and Communication from CUNY Baruch College and worked in the Audit and Technology groups of several Fortune 500 companies prior to entering the field of law. Over the course of her career, she has authored several legal publications and received recognition for exceptional service to her clients.

Prior to joining the JVC in 2016, the jewelry industry’s legal guardian, Miya focused on litigating intellectual property and complex business law disputes for several law firms. She also worked in the financial services industry, where she focused on guiding broker-dealers on compliance with federal anti-money laundering and pay-to-play laws.
